Oisin's Eleven
How the St Mirren loanee quickly established himself as a key player at Firhill
When Oisin Smyth first pitched up at Firhill at the start of September, Partick Thistle supporters weren’t all that sure what to expect from the Northern Irishman. A deadline-day recruit signed at the eleventh hour of the summer transfer window, the 25-year-old arrived as something of an unknown quality. But fans know fine well what the midfielder is all about now.
Smyth has 12 games in red-and-yellow to his name now and aside from a substitute’s appearance in the 4-0 Premier Sports Cup defeat to Celtic, he has started all but one of them in the league. And it’s fair to say the No.6 has made a big impression in that time.
The 2026 Glasgow International Comedy Festival is shaping up to be the best yet. Incredible headliners, a wide variety of fun shows and at venues all across Glasgow in March. There really is something for everyone. Check out all the headline shows announced so far here.
The St Mirren loanee is one of the first names on Mark Wilson’s team sheet following a series of eye-catching displays at the base of a highly competitive midfield. With Ben Stanway, Robbie Crawford, Ts’oanelo Lets’osa and Kyle Turner all vying for a starting spot – not to mention the returning Scott Martin or Luke McBeth, who is occasionally deployed as a defensive midfielder – there is a long and eager queue of team-mates who are looking to pinch Smyth’s place. So far, though, he has held them all off.
So, how has he done it? What qualities is Smyth bringing to the table that his team-mates are not? We’ll examine the midfielder’s 11 starts in the league to see how he has quickly established himself as a key player at Firhill.
